Welcome to the website of John and Pat Sobrero
After retirement, John decided to continue his education. In graduate classes at Virginia Tech, John met several students from Asia and South America who appreciated assistance with the challenges of studying in an unfamiliar culture and using a language not their own. As a result of that experience John has continued work with visiting students who want assistance with oral and written communications. | |

Pat is actively involved in university community engagement which includes a focus on the scholarship of engagement, use of democratic strategies in communities, and transdisciplinary teamwork. She also established the Opal Mann Green Engagement Award at N.C. State in memory of her mother and also to celebrate the principles she and her mother value. In 1989, Pat and her mother established a scholarship for women in Morgan County and Eastern Kentucky in memory of Pat's father and grandmother. Now, Pat has included her mother and is working with the scholarship committee to award the scholarship.
Opal is Pat’s mom whom we lost in 2009. We dedicate this website to her memory and hope that you will take the opportunity to read about this remarkable woman.
